Colorado is full of many beautiful, natural spots. Of course, there’s the Rocky Mountains. But, there are also some other amazing places where you can get your fill of adventure. There are a lot of adventure spots in Colorado, and while the list could go on and on, for now let’s stick with three.
From hiking, to biking, to skiing, and more, every adrenaline junkie out there will be able to find something to do in Colorado. It’s a great year round destination because it doesn’t matter if there is snow on the ground or not. During the warmer months you can mountainbike, hike, and go white water rafting. In the wintertime you can ski, snowboard, ice climb, snowmobile, and more.
Whenever you choose to visit Colorado, you’ll find the whole trip to be one big adventure. And it’s an adventure that’s great for families, couples, groups of friends, and even solo travelers! Time to start exploring.
1) Crested Butte
Located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Crested Butte is the perfect place to hike. Open from May through October, Crested Butte has several trails for hikers to check out. The best time of year is during the summertime when you can see beautiful wild flowers in bloom along the trails.
The great thing about Crested Butte is that there are trails for all hiking abilities, from easy to difficult. There are long hikes and short ones. And the trails aren’t too far from town, which makes this a great place for a weekend getaway.
2) Winter Park
The best thing about Colorado is that it’s a destination that can be visited year round. And with the changing seasons, comes new and fun activities filled with adventure. In the winter head to Winter Park to go dog sledding, tubing, fat biking, ice skating, cross country skiing, trick skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and more. During the summertime you can take to the Alpine slide, go rock climbing, hiking, rafting, take an ATV tour, go horseback riding, mountain biking, and ziplining. The options are endless and perfect for families!
3) Buena Vista
There are several companies that will take you white water rafting down the Arkansas River in Buena Vista. The town is known as the Whitewater Capital of Colorado, and for good reason too. The Arkansas River is a 12 mile stretch of rapids that take you through the beautiful forest and mountains. You’ll go through canyons and gorges while paddling through class III and IV rapids.
